Viðey is the largest island of the Kollafjörður Bay in Iceland, near the capital of Reykjavík. The island has archaeological remains dating back to the early 10th century and was the site where the "father of Reykjavík" Skuli Magnusson constructed his home and a church in the 12th century. From 1225 to 1539 an Augustine Monastery was established on the island. The island's last inhabitants left in 1943. Today the island houses a handful of structures including a small church Viðeyjarkirkja and the Viðeyjarstofa House constructed in 1755.

Guests will reach Viðey by private ferry transfer from the Old Harbour in downtown Reykjavík (see map below) in the late afternoon on Saturday October 8th. The ferry to Viðey takes 20 minutes and libations will be provided on-board. Further information about departure and return times will be provided closer to the wedding date.

The ceremony will be held outside, within walking distance of the dock and Viðeyjarstofa House. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in Viðeyjarkirkja, the adjacent church. A cocktail and dinner reception in Viðeyjarstofa House will follow the ceremony. Live music and dancing in an outdoor (heated) tent will ensue, into the evening. If we are lucky, we may be able to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis.
